After graduating from Lincoln High School, Stockton (California), USA, Dr. Torres started his career in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Córdoba (Spain) in 1990 where he qualified in 1996, having exerted as internal student at the Medicine and Nephrology Departments from 1994 to 1996. Between 1996 and 1998 he finished the pre-PhD doctorate courses obtaining the Investigators' Degree Diploma. In 1998, he moved to Madrid, and started his training as a Nephrologist in one of Spain's most recognized Services at Hospital Doce de Octubre, one of the largest Nephrology programs in Spain. He holds a specialty degree as  Nephrologist after licensing in 2002. This training was complemented with a rota as Visiting Fellow at Mayo Clinic (Rochester (MN), USA) from December 2001 to March 2002, where he gained experience in Intensive Care Nephrology and the Kidney-Pancreas Transplantation Unit, while performing research in Kidney Transplant that was published in collaboration with other authors from Mayo.
In June 2002 he starts his path as a Nephrologist at the University Hospital La Fe in Valencia (Spain) from where he moves in December 2003 to the United Kingdom. He earns a position as Senior Clinical Fellow at the Renal Unit of the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trus Hospital, in London. He assumes responsabilities in the wards, in the Renal Trasplant Unit as well as the sections of Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis, Outpatient Clinics and participating in the academic activities of the Department, teaching seminars for the students of the RFH-UCL Medical School.
From July 2005 onwards, he develops his activity as a Nephrology Specialist at Málaga's Regional University Hospital being in charge of the inpatients admitted to the hospitalisation ward, and the acute nephrology unit, the interconsultations from other specialties, and more recently the Low Clearance and the Nephrology, Hypertensión and Vascular Risk Outpatient Clinics.
He has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, chapters in textbooks and has presented multiple communications to meetings and specialty symposia, participated in research projects and trials related to renal disease. He has represented the Renal Services department at the quality commission for Infections at the Hospital and is a full member of the Spanish Society of Nephrology. He regularly takes part in continued medical education courses and teaches in seminars in different academic conferences. He has recently settled his private practice as a Nephrologist.
